MTCOS in SESAMES 'fastest e-Passport of the world'

SesamesSmall.jpg Our latest release of MTCOS Professional has set new performance benchmark for secure travel documents and ID cards. A standard data set with a facial image sized according to ICAO recommendation, the holder personal data and passive authentication signature data can now be read with SAC/PACE protection in less than 1 second using very high bit rates (VHBR) with a data transmission rate of 6.8 mbps.

MTCOS has been upgraded during the past 3 months to support flash memory devices with its related advantages and new challenges. The modular design of the OS enables project individual design-ins to the exact chip size for a maximum of cost efficiency and without the latency of a full ROM mask qualification. Flash chips will be available on new shrinked manufacturing technologies and reduce the inventory cost effectively. One basic flash type can be used for several different projects on demand.

Another important aspect will be the amount of data stored in the chip. The data size will increase in the future especially with the upcoming LDS2 standard. New applications will be introduced such as the new e-Visa. Entry and exit stamps of a traveler will have to be stored in the chip's secure memory. By using VHBR and the latest MTCOS innovative features such as multiple security level support, the transaction times at our borders will significantly decrease.

The reference implementation was done on the latest flash secure microcontroller from Infineon, the SLE 78CLFX500VPH with 500KB flash memory, dual CPU - Integrity Guard and contactless interface with VHBR support.

The solution has received the SESAMES award in the category IDENTIFICATION / ID CARDS / HEALTH at Cartes 2013.
